Construction Process (except for standard reeds which are made from gouged, shaped and profiled cane from Barton Cane)
1. Tube cane is split, sorted by density, gouged and then profiled on a Rieger profiler.
2. It is then shaped using a Knochenauer, Rieger 1a, Rieger 2, Fox 2, or a Del Negro shaper.
3. Wires are attached and the tube is formed.
4. Once dry, the reed blank is wrapped with cotton thread using a Rieger Wickelmachine. German-made Uhu Hart cement is applied to seal the wrapping.
5. The tip is cut and profiled on a Rieger tip profiling machine to assure a perfect and consistent tip.
6. Further finishing is done with a knife, various files and sandpaper so that the reed plays "out of the box" but will require playing in (see page on reed adjustments). Generally all styles other than the standard (red) will require a little more personalized trim workm and, as such, are intended for more advanced or professional players.
